Skin Rejuvenation

FAQ

How Does IPL Photofacial Rejuvenation Treatments Work?

A cool clear gel is applied on the area to be treated.  A smooth crystal is gently placed in contact with the gel.  A flash of light lasting a few milliseconds is delivered to the skin. Once delivered, levels of energy specific to your treatment are absorbed by the targeted area, with a minimal risk to the surrounding tissue. This process is repeated with an overlapping pattern until the entire face has been treated.

In the cases of irregular pigmentation, this light is absorbed by the pigmented area, which will go even darker over the next few hours.  The area will look a bit dark for 2 days to 1  week. Then it will slough off leaving the pigmented areas lighter than previously.  In the case of facial veins the energy is absorbed by the blood vessels. The energy is then transformed into heat which causes thermocoagulation of the blood vessels.  The clogged vessel  gradually breaks  down and is absorbed by the surrounding tissue.

For optimal results, it is strongly recommended that the face should be properly treated for all impurities (eg. Blackheads) and dehydrated skin as they may  compromise the results.

How Many Treatments are Required?

Your first discussion with our specialist practitioner should clearly set out your expectations of the treatment and the practitioner should tell you whether or not these results are achievable using this method. Your medical history will be taken, to ensure that there are no reasons why you shouldn’t have the treatment.

What Results Could You Expect?

After one or two treatments, your skin tone will be more even and look smoother in appearance.  Clients with rosacea will see a progressive decrease in redness with every treatment.  Sunspots will start to fade and pores will become less apparent.  Fine lines and wrinkles will soften over time.  Skin will firm and tighten, breasts will start to have more volume.  These improvements continue with each treatment.

Will the Pigmentation Spots, the Red Complexion or the Veins Return?

Whatever is treated will never come back.  However if your skin is prone to have pigmentation imbalances or facial veins, chances are that new ones will form over time.  IPL skin rejuvenation treatments help improves previous skin damage, however the natural aging process will continue.  It is VERY important to apply sunscreen as part of your daily routine, and avoid sun exposure.  Maintenance treatments are recommended in order to uphold optimal results.

What Will Recovery Be Like?

Post treatment discomfort is almost non existent.  Your skin may appear slightly red or flushed.  This will fade in the first few hours to 48 hours after treatment.  Pigmentation will even out in approximately 10 days.  After blood vessel treatments, capillaries may seem to be more visible.  They will slowly shrink in about 3 to 10 days, leaving the skin looking younger with a more toned complexion.  Following any treatment your skin may feel tender for several days.  In rare instances, temporary swelling and/ or blistering can occur. Limiting sun exposure for several weeks before and after treatment will greatly minimize the risk of complications.

What can be expected During a Treatment?

Prior to a treatment the target area must be free of all make-up and creams and must be shaved.  Eye wear is worn by the patient and Technician to protect eyes form the bright light. The area treated is cleansed and the filtered light is applied through a hand piece.  Each pulse feels like a snap of an elastic band on the skin.  A treatment may last anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour depending on the size of the area being treated.

What does Intense Pulse Light Therapy Cost?

The cost of treatment depends on the area being treated and will be discussed at the time of your complimentary consultation.  Call Hyperion Laser Rehabilitation and Wellness Center to book your complimentary consultation and test patch.

What can I do to ensure best results?

Sun exposure, tanning beds, sunless tanning lotions and tanning creams are to be avoided for at least 4 weeks prior to during and 4 weeks after the course of treatment, otherwise there is a risk of pigment change or blistering.  Sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher should be applied during the course of treatments.  If you‘ve started antibiotics or any other medications that may make you photo sensitive, please let your technician know BEFORE we begin.  We may have to reschedule your appointment.  Also notify the Technician if there has been any change in your health status (new medications, heart conditions, etc) Avoid any strenuous workout, hot tubs and spas for 24 hours after treatment.   Ice chilled cold packs or wet wash cloth put in the freezer for 2-3 minutes may be applied post treatment as needed for patient comfort.
